Bach's first prelude from the Well Tempered Clavier series is easily the most famous of the collection. It has passed the test of time with genuine appreciation for its chord progression and pedagogic value. Other simpler guitar arrangements of this prelude exist, but this one stays closer to the original and doubles as a study in harmonics.

The opening four measures of the prelude are the most characteristic and well recognized of the whole piece. The I - ii4/2 - V6/5 - I progression establishes the key and the arpeggiation pattern. Throughout this arrangement, notes played as harmonics are designated with the use of a small circle above the note. The beginning section also uses 8va to put harmonics in the right octave while simultaneously showing where strings need to be held down with your fretting hand.
